Mark 1:14 NKJV - "Now after John was put in
prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God"
[This was followed by the conversion of Peter and Andrew: (Mark 1:14, 16, 18
NKJV - "Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching
the gospel of the kingdom of God, ... And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee,
He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were
fishermen. ... They immediately left their nets and followed Him.")].
John 3:22-24 NKJV -
"After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea,
and there He remained with them and baptized. Now John also was baptizing in
Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were
baptized. For John had not yet been thrown into prison." [Peter and Andrew
had already been converted: (John 1:40-42 NKJV - "One of the two who heard
John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first found
his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah"
which is translated, the Christ. And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus
looked at him, He said, "You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be
called Cephas" which is translated, A Stone.")].
Answer:
Mark 1:14, “Now after John was put in prison, Jesus
came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God”. Before John was
put in prison, the Lord Jesus was a teacher from his child hood. John 1:38, “They said to him, “Rabbi” (which
is to say, when translated, Teacher), “Where are You staying”. If the Lord
Christ was not a teacher, they would have not called Him, “Rabbi”. This
incident happened in the presence of John the Baptist. Jesus got Baptism from
John the Baptist after 30 years and arranged 12 disciples to spread the gospel
of kingdom, because, His time was nearing. But, John gave written witness in
John 3:22-24 “After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of
Judea, and there He remained with them and baptized... For John had not yet
been thrown into prison”.
As long as Jesus lived on the earth, He moved from
one place to another place. He did not stay in one place more than two days. He
continued nomadic life while from moving one place to other i.e. Galilee,
Jerusalem, Samaria, Bethesda, Bethany, Judea, etc. So, Mark 1:14, “Now after
John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the
kingdom of God”.
There is no meaning in this that Lord Christ did not
preach the gospel before the prison of John. What did the Lord Jesus do after
the prison of John firstly? While Mark was announcing about the incident, he
wrote that the Lord Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom
of God.
The disciples of the Lord Jesus did not know the
incidents that happened before John was put in the prison. So they could write
the birth history of the Lord Christ by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
John the Baptist said to the multitudes that came out
to be baptized by him in Luke 3:7, “Brood of Vipers”. So, John the Baptist was
put in the prison as in Mark 1:14, but the authorities were afraid because the
multitudes believed that John the Baptist was a prophet of the Lord. So, John
the Baptist would have been released by the authorities as they were afraid of
the multitudes. Thereafter, it is written in John 3: 22-24 that John the
Baptist was not yet cast into prison, because John had the motive to express
basing on the death of John the Baptist. So, the incident which is written in
Mark1:14 is the first incident in which John the Baptist was put into prison
for criticizing the multitudes.
Thereafter John the Baptist had said to Herod, “It is
not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” Then Herod put him into
prison. This is the 2nd incident in which John the Baptist was put into
prison. So, the incident mentioned in
Mark1:14 is the first incident. The
incident written in John 3: 22-24 is about the 2nd incident. In between two
incidents firstly, after Baptism of the Lord Christ, Peter and Andrew came and
enquired the Lord. Thereafter the Lord Christ called Peter and Andrew when they
catching the fishes. Is there any contradiction among the two incidents?
