Question 42 - The arrival of the Holy Spirit was 1stday of the Lord’s resurrection or after Jesus ascends to Heaven!

           John 20:19-22 NKJV - Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be with you." When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you." And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.

           Acts 1:3-5 NKJV - to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; "for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.".

           Acts 2:1-4 NKJV - When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Answer:

John 16:7, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.”

So, the Lord Christ appeared to His disciple 40 days after His resurrection.

But, the incident in John 20: 19-22 happened on sun day (after His resurrection) at evening.

When He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit”. But, here it is written that it is said, “Receive”, but not it is said, “Received.”

So, according to the words in John 20:19-22, and the Acts of the Apostles 1:3,5 they received the Holy Spirit only after Christ’s ascension, in the Acts  of the Apostles 2:1-4. “They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
