Question 45 - Who was the mother of Abijah? Is it Maachah or Michaiah?

2 Chronicles 11:21-22 NKJV - "Now Rehoboam loved Maachah the granddaughter of Absalom more than all his wives and his concubines; for he took eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters. And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maachah as chief, to be leader among his brothers; for he intended to make him king."
2 Chronicles 13:1-2 NKJV - "In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam, Abijah became king over Judah. He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam."
Answer:
It is written that Abijah was the son of maachah the granddaughter of Absalom in 2 chronicles 11:21-22. And also, it is written that Abijah was the son of Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. Both Maachah and Michaiah were the wives of the king Rehoboam. So, they were in the harem of one king only. The mother, who begot Abijah, was the Maachah the granddaughter of Absalom, because Rehoboam loved her more than all his wives and made her a queen (1 kings 15:13) and her son Abijah as leader among his brothers. May be, Maachah was very busy as a queen or would have been died or sick, so Abijah was brought up by the Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah.  Whatever may be, Maachah and Michaiah were the wives of the same king Rehoboam, is there anything wrong in calling them mothers of Abijah.
